The amazing and incomparable soul goddess Sharon Jones has lost her heartbreaking battle with pancreatic cancer – she passed away yesterday at the age of 60. Of the many times I was lucky enough to see her play with The Dap Kings, the most memorable would be her landmark performance at the 2014 Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn. At the time, she had recently recovered from her initial battle with the disease. Her explosive monologue at the center of “Get Up and Get Out” is one of the most electrifying things I have ever seen live.

Without a doubt, my favorite Sharon Jones song is “Answer Me”, the closing track from 100 Days, 100 Nights. Watch her figure it out and then stunningly record it at Daptone Studios in Bushwick, which just happens to be just a block away from the apartment I have lived in for ten years.

And dive into this full concert live at The Olympia to experience the sheer power of her live show.

Ms. Jones, you were one of a kind. We are lucky to have been graced with your passion and talent. Thank you for everything.
